Travel Diary | Copenhagen

I just got back from Copenhagen and had such a great time I thought i'd share some pictures and talk about what we got up to. I'm a big fan of Scandinavia and it's become one of my favourite places to visit. We went to Stockholm a few years ago and Copenhagen definitely had a similar feel to it which I loved. 

DAY 1:

We arrived around lunchtime which was perfect as we had the afternoon to wonder around and get a feel for the city. We were stopping near the central station in Vesterbro which was a great central location. The woman that checked us in at the hotel was so helpful and told us the best things to go see. We decided to walk up the main shopping up to Nyhaven which is where all the beautiful coloured buildings are and a great place to sit or go for a canal trip which we did the next day. 

DAY 2:
On our first full day we went on a canal trip which I would highly recommend as its the best way to see everything and the tour guides are give you more information and history about the city. We saw the Little Mermaid from the tour which is one of the most popular tourist sights but all the locals we spoke to said to only go see it if you have time so we decided not to bother since we managed to get a good view from the boat. 

After the boat trip we had some lunch at an amazing bakery called Lagkagehuset. I would highly recommend going to bakeries in Copenhagen since the food and pastries are delicious. We then decided to spend the afternoon in Tivoli Gardens which was actually close to our hotel. There are lots of rides here which you have to pay to go on as well as an entrance fee so we didn't end up going on them. We did walk around the whole garden and grabbed a juice and enjoyed so of the lovely water features. 

It is definitely themed for families so a good place to go if you have children. We enjoyed it and there's lots of cafes and restaurants so you could definitely spend the whole day there. We ended the day by having another walk around and going for a tasty burger. It doesn't get dark till very late in the Summer so you find you stop out longer without even realising it. Day 3 we spent going over the bridge to Malmo which took up the whole day so i'm going to do a separate post on that. 
DAY 4:

The weather was definitely unpredictable and although it rained on our first full day the rest of the days were really warm and sunny. The sky was nice and clear so we decided to go up the Round Tower to get a view of the city. The entrance fee was very cheap and well worth it for the views you get. We took lots of pictures then went to another bakery to pick up some lunch to eat in the Kings Garden. 

We were told this is where the locals like to go and you could definitely tell. There was lots of space to sit and relax or have a picnic. You can also see the Rosenborg Castle from here which was very impressive. Across the road from here is the Botanic Gardens which is free to walk around and it had such a calming feel to it. 

We loved this afternoon as we were both a bit tired from walking around so it was nice to sit and relax whilst enjoying the amazing weather. In the evening we did some souvenir shopping and wondered around some of the cute alleyways around the shopping roads. 

I loved visiting Copenhagen, the people were so friendly and helpful. There's lots to see and so many cute cafes and bakeries to enjoy. Food can be expensive but if you do a little research and ask people in your hotel or in a tourist information they'll happily give you some places to eat. We also visited some local supermarkets and stocked up on fruit and snacks to keep us going. A lot of people cycle in the city, especially the locals however we found it very easy to walk everywhere since most the sights are fairly close together.
